Whatever you feel or think about the 44th president of the United States, you cannot help but appreciate this masterpiece by Aniekan Udofia. One of Washington DC’s most well-known artists, Udofia is behind many public art works in the US Capital. This mural shows sketches of iconic African-American figures, from abolitionist Harriet Tubman and former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, to boxer Muhammad Ali, singers Prince, Roberta Flack, and Chuck Brown, and comedians Dave Chappelle and Dick Gregory. A poll by 30,000 voters chose the 16 subjects painted on this wall by Udofia with acrylic and spray paint. The Torch was unveiled on June 21, 2017. Capturing this wonderful art work with my camera, I hope to help preserve in time its wonderful colors and textures. You can find it at the corner of Ben Ali Way and U Street N.W. in Washington DC.
