Description
This is the largest butterfly in the world. Well, technically Attacus Atlas is not a butterfly, but a moth, considered the largest in the world in terms of total wing surface area, even if recent sources confer this title upon the Hercules Moth from New Guinea and northern Australia. Its wingspans are amongst the largest, reaching over 25 cm (9.8 in). *If you reach my gallery at http://www.rf-artphotography.com/Art-Galleries/Animals/i-Xg3khsW/A you can see a picture with the real proportions of this butterfly*. I took this picture at the Butterfly Exhibit of the Brookside Botanical Garden, in Maryland. Although a tripod is not allowed inside the exhibit, many butterflies stay still for a while, eating or resting, and you can take beautiful pictures. There are many different kind of butterflies from all over the world. Attacus Atlas lives in the tropical and subtropical forests of Southeast Asia.
